UX Evolution

BY GIRL GEEK DINNERS AT XERO HQ

I was attending Girl Geek Dinners yesterday at Xero HQ in Hawthorn after work. I was interested because there were some amazing female design leaders speaking that night: Remya from REA, Amy from Xero, Gemma from Intrepid and Milly as a UX freelancer. It was great also catching up with girls who are currently doing UX course at GA and made few friends there too.

Xero + Girl Geek Dinners.

A couple of things I took from the night was:

  • “John Maeda on design: Design is about how it feels and how it works, not really about the aesthetic,” Amy
  • “Sales people matter. Often times, when sales people are good, they can be a source of information,” Amy
  • “Use opportunity cost to justify your work,” Rem
  • “Be an advocate for user,” Gemma
  • “Bad design can increase support cost. Choose the metrics that business can relate when you are trying to explain why you need a certain amount of time to make things happen,” Milly
